Welcome to the Australian Government's
Electronic Travel Authority System

If you are planning a holiday visit or a short business trip to Australia, you will need to apply for either a visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). An ETA will let you spend up to three months in Australia.

From this site you can:

  • Apply for an ETA
  • Check the validity of an existing ETA issued through this site
Important: changes to ETA eligibility from 27 October 2008

From 27 October 2008, European passport holders will have access to the new eVisitor service when applying online for authority to visit Australia.

To access the eVisitor service, for European passport holders, click here.

These travellers will no longer be eligible to use the online ETA system from midnight Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) 26 October 2008 (1pm GMT 26 October 2008).

The introduction of the new eVisitor service does not affect the validity of existing ETAs or other visas held by visitors to Australia. If you hold a valid ETA you can still use that to travel to Australia after 27 October 2008.

Important: changes to ETA application processing from April 2008

From 21 April 2008, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship is implementing changes to the ETA system. The department will continue to process most ETA applications instantly; however, in a small number of cases, some additional processing will be required. If your ETA cannot be issued immediately please check back in 12 hours to confirm whether your application has been successful. Please apply for your ETA as early as possible prior to travel to allow sufficient time for your application to be processed.

The system used for issuing an ETA via this site interfaces to and checks data with other Australian Government systems. In the event that you provide an incorrect answer to any question asked on this site (either knowingly or unknowingly), then any ETA issued may be subject to cancellation.
